Built for two very different readers

For little ones

  • A repeating “Why do we…?” chant that begs to be said out loud.
  • Recap pages every few spreads, so you get to say them all again.
  • Two best friends, and Squish POPs into a new shape on almost every page.
  • Short enough for one more read before bed.

For grown-ups

  • Every book ends with a real Note for Grown-Ups, with simple tips for reading it together.
  • Short, rhythmic, read-aloud text that survives the twentieth re-read.
  • Real skills underneath the story: habits, counting, colors, shapes, opposites, letters, weather and holiday traditions.
  • Characters who come back in every book, so the world feels familiar.
Wesley Scholl, author of Learning with Squish

Wesley Scholl

Author, Learning with Squish

Squish wasn't supposed to be a children's book character. He started as a mascot for a completely different project, until my daughter saw an early version of him on my screen and loved him immediately.

So I kept refining the character, and started making up stories about him and her, playing together. She asked for them again and again (“I want Squish book”) until one Father's Day, I turned one into a real book for her shelf. She still pulls it down and hands it to me herself.

That's still what these books are: two friends who come back, and a story worth asking for twice.

Questions parents actually ask

What age is this for?

Ages 1 to 4 across the series. Learning Shapes with Squish leans a little older, but every book is built for read-aloud time starting in toddlerhood.

How long is each book?

The story books are short on purpose: from 10 spreads (Habits) to 40 pages (Christmas), built for a wiggly toddler’s attention span. The Collections and the Activity Book are bigger.

Do I need to read them in order?

Nope. Every book stands alone. If you want the official order it’s Habits → Counting → Colors → the Collection → Shapes → Opposites → ABCs → the Shapeshifter Collection → Trick-or-Treat → Weather → the 12 Days of Christmas. The Coloring and Activity Books fit in anywhere, and Squish and Lilyan will happily meet your kid wherever you start.

Is there anything in it for the grown-up reading it?

Yes. Every book ends with a real “Note for Grown-Ups,” with simple tips for reading it together, not just a cute story for your kid.

Can I get them as ebooks, paperbacks or hardbacks?

Every book comes in paperback on Amazon, and most also come as a Kindle ebook. Both Collections also come in hardback. The Coloring and Activity Books are paperback only.

Who makes the books?

Wesley Scholl, a Marine veteran in Alexandria, Virginia, and Lily’s dad. Lilyan, the little girl in every book, is his daughter, and he reads her every draft before it’s published. He writes, plans, designs, lays out and edits every book himself. AI image tools are one part of how the illustrations are made.

Ebooks, paperbacks and hardbacks

Both Collections also come in hardback. Prices are Amazon list prices; Amazon sometimes discounts them.
